Last week was one of the coldest weeks I have ever experienced in New Mexico. School was cancelled for the entire week except Monday. First it was because of snow and ice on the roads, then it was because it was too cold to start the busses, then it was because we had a gas shortage due to increased usage that came along with the freezing temperatures. These crazy boys (the one in the black coat is Chad's good friend, Tanner) decided that having days off from school and basketball practice was a perfect opportunity to go skiing/snow boarding at Sandia. By the time I picked them up at the bottom of the tram after four hours in the snow, they were like two ice cubes. Chad said that the temperature at the top of the mountain was 24 degrees below zero with the wind chill factor and that they had had to go into the lodge regularly just so that they could regain feeling in their fingers. Yikes! Now, just when it's starting to warm up again and everybody is getting gas and water back (a lot of pipes cracked including those at our church - causing the biggest water mess you have ever seen and a closure of San Victorio Chapel for probably a few months), we're expecting another snow storm this afternoon. What ever happened to global warming?
