World Champions!

Okay, first my disclaimer.  Chad thinks it's absolutely ridiculous for me to be blog posting about a team that involves no Smith children, but too bad.  I am so proud of these girls and coaches that I could burst my buttons. So Chad can go jump in a lake. :) (Personally, I think he's just jealous because even their La Cueva baseball coach  has softball fever.)

Our Eastdale Softball girls have won the softball world series - the softball world series, people!  About half of these girls are Chad's friends' little sisters so we've watched them play and practice over the years, but holy cow! I had no idea how good they had gotten.  The manager of the team was Chad's baseball coach for three years before he switched to softball and he is amazing.  Both he (Reno) and Kevin (3rd and 2nd from left on top) are the dads of Chad's friends Justin and Alex.  I love those guys and I love those girls.
I am pretty sure these ladies never lost a game during their entire all stars season all the way through regionals in Texas and the World Series in Oregon.  They are absolute beasts.  Since they have been home, the mayor has declared a holiday in their honor and they have been honored at Isotopes Field.  In the next couple of days, they will have a celebration with the Chamber of Commerce and dinner at the Governor's mansion.  So awesome!

This was totally cool! Loved watching them on ESPN - I think you forgot to mention that! ESPN! Ok - so ESPN2, but still. From ABQ, NM. So great!

I did forget to mention that. ESPN! Speaking of which, Chad is even more annoyed now because the team they beat at regionals before having to drop out got to play two games on ESPN and took 2nd place at the senior world series. Bummer!

Okay, I was apparently wrong. East Texas didn't make it to ESPN. They got beat just before the semifinals. Bummer!
